My life has changed a lot in the last few months: I moved with two lovely English girls into a wonderful flat,  I have been partying a lot, meeting amazing and interesting people, some assholes too (whom are better to be ignored), eating healthier, doing a lot of exercise and learning about myself.

I always thought I couldn’t be alone, I was scared at the beginning due to all the big changes, but I have proved to myself that I am absolutely capable of whatever I am intend to do and I am really proud of it. London and every single experience I am having here is helping me to be stronger.

I am enjoying my friends more than ever (missing the Spanish ones), enjoying the sun whenever it shines and above all, being really positive and feeling happy with my new life. Now it’s time to think about a quick visit to Spain

PS: I wrote this post last night when I was fine but I woke up with a horrible sore throat and some fever, cannot go to work and everything in TV is crap. Anyway…

Listening to: Queens Of The Stone Age – No One Knows

Seen Moby’s electronic background, it was too difficult to imagine a 100% unplugged concert, even more when thinking about my favourite songs (they are all quite electronic). Actually, it wasn’t 100% unplugged, as they used an electric bass guitar as he said: “We couldn’t find a decent acoustic bass guitar, so it is not a 100% unplugged concert,  apologies for that” (or something similar, I don’t remember the exact words he used).

The concert started with Kelli Scarr singing some of her songs. She has been helped by Moby to create her new album ‘Piece’, and to be honest, she has a really sweet voice, although it reminds me to Feist voice. I liked her. You can download her new songs from her website, I already did that.

I really appreciate musicians that bring the opportunity to download some of their music, I always buy them at the end (if I like it, of course, but that is almost every time ).

Then Moby showed on the stage. He started to speak, and the only thing he was saying was “thank you thank you thank you”. They started with ‘Pale horses’ from the new album. Amazing, how it sounded with the violins, the cello, the piano, well, everything!

In the middle of the concert, they stopped for an interview. Sophie Heawood, an award-winning music journalist was in charge of it. Most of the questions were from the audience, and there were two I remember I liked the most: this was obvious “Why does your heart feels so bad?”. Moby answered some guy (don’t remember the name) said the album Play wasn’t so good, so his heart felt so bad after listening to that album (lol). The second question I remember was from some music students that need to make some kind of project and they wanted to quote Moby, so he said: “Big music labels deserve to die”, all in a humour tone, of course. He seemed so unpretentious, like he was talking to a bunch of friends on his living-room. I really liked him.

Then the concert continued, playing all of my favourites songs Lift me up,  Find my baby, Why does my heart feel so bad?, Slipping away, We all are made of stars , and finished the concert with  Honey.

Most of the songs were sung by Kelli Scarr and Joy, a purely blues/soul voice that trapped you and makes you don’t want to listen to anything else.

No solo porque vas a un bar de copas y no estas escuchando a David Bisbal, sino que la oferta cultural es inmensa (e impresionante).

Imagináos ahora un escenario, tres columnas enormes, como si fueran tres rascacielos que se iluminan y ves sombras de gente subiendo por sus escaleras internas. Entonces de repente, se escucha un estrépito y el suelo comienza a temblar como si de un terremoto se tratara. Era causado por 23.000 personas pegando botes al ritmo de Uprising y yo me encontraba entre ellas.

Nos sorprendió bastante, pero la siguiente fue Resistance, una de mis favoritas del último disco. Y luego, empezaron a tocar de los discos antiguos… New born, Time is running out, Supermassive Blackhole, Hysteria, Stockholm Syndrome, Unintended (va por ti Javi!), Starlight, Map of the Problematique… intercalando algunas del nuevo… Undisclosed Desires, Unnatural Selection, United States of Eurasia, Guiding Light y Exogenesis (Overture en el bis).

Y para terminar, por qué no con una de las mejores:

A pesar de que el concierto me encantó y disfruté como una enana (no es que sea yo muy alta, no), me ‘decepcionaron’ un poco ya que no tocaron ninguna de las dos que yo considero como las mejores: Butterflies and Hurricanes e Invincible.

Pero bueno, Madrid prepárate, porque lo vas a flipar!

Hoy me he levantado temprano, y desde lo alto de mi torreón tengo un panorama bastante interesante. He decidido disfrutar de este día en Londres, el primero del mes, con una tostada con Lurpak y un café bien cargadito con la banda sonora de la lluvia tras de mí.

Muchas cosas han pasado desde que me mudé a esta gran ciudad, y me ha aportado tanto cosas buenas como cosas no tan buenas (hoy me siento positiva ).

Mis comienzos en Londres fueron algo revueltos, desde la lucha entre “que sí que no que sí que no” me voy,  que como podéis imaginar, acabó en “que sí”, pasando por “dios mío, he empezado una carrera que algún día tendré que terminar” y por “no tengo ni un duro, ni trabajo, ni sé hablar suficientemente bien inglés como para buscar uno”.

Después de un año y 21 días, la cosa ha cambiado mucho. Bueno, no tanto, porque sigo sin tener ni un duro.

A finales de Mayo de este año, comencé a trabajar como becaria en Mendeley, una pequeña startup (de la que no diré más en este post, ya que se merece uno para ella sola y que escribiré más adelante) en el centro de Londres. Por aquel entonces, todo lo que había aprendido en el tiempo que estuve trabajando en España se había desvanecido un poco, pero mis esfuerzos por encontrar trabajo dieron su fruto, y estuve intentando recordar lo que sabía de PHP, MySQL y otras cosas varias. Como era becaria, importaba poco que fuera una experta, ya que yo estaba ahí para aprender, y así lo hice. Ahora tengo un contrato como ‘Software Engineer’ y me estoy especializando en  ‘SEO’.

Durante un tiempo estuve bastante estresada, con unos meses de insomnio y pesadillas varias. Luego me recuperé y hasta hoy, he tenido varias pesadillas pero nada de lo que preocuparse excesivamente.

Echo de menos España. Echo de menos las risas por cualquier pollada (en español claro), las cervezas espontáneas un lunes por la tarde, los paseos en bicicleta con Tere, los picnics nocturnos en el parque del Alamillo, las noches en el piso franco, las fiestas en la azotea de Jujo, ir a trabajar al CICA con los gañanes de Javi y Rafa, las cenitas en casa de Kan y Elena, las salidas con Dani los martes por la noche y llegar a mi casa con un pedo considerable después de unos cuantos cubatas en el garito de al lado de mi casa y tener que ir a trabajar el día siguiente, quedar con Ede después de años luz para contarnos como nos va la vida y ponernos al día del resto de la gente del colegio, los cafés avioneta de la escuela, las tardes de estudio en el búnker, los fines de semana en los Caños escuchando a mi madre ‘no me caaanso de esto, es que no me caaanso’, conducir durante un par de horas para ir a Montilla a ver al Peluso, las croquetas de Sole, los fines de semana en Brokenship, tumbarme al sol, las pelis de zombies con el Peluso y Tivi y un peta y Fran diciendo que huele desde 3 pisos más abajo, las ‘palizas’ de Diego, conocer a alguien nuevo cada día y hacernos amigos de por vida, las  noches de juegos con mis hermanos y cuñadas, ver a mis perros correr por la playa y un largo etcétera.

Londres es una ciudad fantástica, con muchas posibilidades, muchas cosas que hacer y… mucha gente que viene y se va. Pero en general, siendo sincera, no puedo quejarme para nada. Me cuidan a tutiplén, vivo en un sitio privilegiado, me va bien en el trabajo, he conocido a gente muy interesante y estoy haciendo un montón de cosas que nunca pensé que llegarían por falta de dinero. Ahora tengo falta de dinero, pero porque hago muchas cosas jeje. Pero una de mis mejores amigas ‘from Cuenquish Town’ (al lado de ‘Albacetish Town’) se va y eso se va a notar. Elena.no, que sepas, que te voy a echar de menos.

Empieza un mes bastante interesante. Sólo espero que mis amigos se den cuenta de que, a pesar de la distancia que nos separa, no hay ni un sólo día que no me acuerde de ellos, y que es la falta de tiempo por la que no me pongo a escribir más. Os quiero a todos, a los que estáis lejos y a los que estáis cerca. Espero veros pronto.

Ahora toca estudiar un poco de esa carrera que algún día terminaré.

Feliz mes de Noviembre a todos

So, as I said before, I had always remembered Clint as a cowboy and a macho man, until I saw Million Dollar Baby. A great film, without doubt, and when we thought he could not do it better…. Ta-dah! He made Gran Torino. 

Without wishing to spoil you the movie (you can see the plot summary here), I can only say, it is wonderfully emotive, and I went out of the cinema crying of seeing again a masterpiece of the great Clint Eastwood. So he is proving he does it better and better. Can't wait to watch his next movie "The Human Factor". We'll see.

Hace dos días que hizo 7 meses desde que llegué a Londres. Antes de venir, estuve ojeando las diferentes webs de búsqueda de trabajo para ver con qué podría encontrarme cuando llegara aquí. Encontré bastantes cosas relacionandas con lo que yo sé hacer (en aquella época, lo que mejor se me daba era programar en PHP; en este tiempo he aprendido muchas cosas más). Pero eso fue antes del temido Credit Crunch (crisis mundial, para los que no manejen mucho el inglés).

Hice varias entrevistas, que no dieron mucho fruto, porque resulta que fue justo en la época donde explotó la crisis y pararon los procesos de selección, o cogieron a otro porque yo no les gusté o vete tú a saber.

La cosa es, que dado de lo que yo tengo experiencia como PHP Web Developer no salía nada, decidí parar de buscar para centrarme en hacer los exámenes para terminar la carrera por la UNED, que dicho sea de paso, es mucho más difícil estudiar a distancia que ir a clase, pero bueno, eso para otro post.

Ahora he vuelto a retomar la búsqueda de trabajo, y visto el éxito de la primera vez, además de buscar de PHP Web developer, estoy buscando además de graduate o trainee o internship, que para que nos entendamos, son becas para recién titulados, para estudiantes o para estudiantes a punto de terminar la carrera. Dado que yo tengo ya un título y estoy casi terminando otro, doy el perfil para cualquiera de los 3 puestos. Lo mejor de todo, es que ponen unas facilidades espasmóticas:

- Si eres estudiante, no te preocupes, sólo nos hace falta que estés en tu penúltimo año, estudiando en la universidad más prestigiosa de toda inglaterra. Absténganse los estudiantes de otras universidades.

- Además debes ser 7-lingüe y tener como mínimo unos 5 años de experiencia; Tienes más oportunidades si empezaste a trabajar antes de nacer (ojo! esto es una ventaja, pero no garantiza nada).

- Y por supuesto, tienes que saber de todas las tecnologías existentes y las no existentes todavía.Haber programado en todos los lenguajes de programación posibles y tener experiencia demostrable, vamos que les enseñes el código.

Todo esto tienes que demostrarlo en el CV, para que luego te llamen por teléfono de una agencia de trabajo (ni siquiera pertenece a la empresa de la oferta) que son los que se encargan de cortar cabezas para que después, los afortunados que sigan con la cabeza en su sitio sean entrevistados por la empresa final.

Como comprenderéis, esto…fácil no es. Súmale a la búsqueda de trabajo, el estudio a distancia y las distintas tareas del hogar y el continuo aprendizaje del inglés. Pero bueno, no decaeré en mi intento de hacerme un hueco en la Business Society de Londres.

Además por suerte, cuento con el apoyo incondicional de la persona más importante de mi vida en estos momentos. Gracias. Si no fuera por tí no sé que estaría yo haciendo (bueno, lo mismo no estaba ni en Londres, vete tú a saber XDD). 

Ahora a trabajar en una web (portfolio que es una palabra más cool y que a todo el mundo gusta) donde convencerlos a todos. Ánimo para los que estén como yo, donde quiera que estén, en cualquier lugar de este planeta azul.

Since I was a little girl, I have been seeing my father taking photographs with an old Olympus Reflex and I like photography very much. I've always wanted to learn about it, but never had the opportunity until Arcturus gave me a camera for my last birthday. It's a Canon EOS 1000D and it's wonderful!

I'm learning a lot and I would like to take a lot of good pictures! Portraits is the field I like the most, so I need models! Anyone who wants to pose for me? I'll pay him/her with a lollipop and having a good time or just satisfying him/her ego with a good picture

I can upload just one picture per day, but I like this, because I have to think well what photography I want to share and try to work more on them.

I remebered some friends told me about Gumtree, a web of classifieds, and I decided to post an ad there for a language exchange. I could never think there were so many people who want to learn spanish, and I received a lot of mails from people who want to meet me. Then I felt so happy

That's how I met Mike and Catherine, my firsts new english friends in London

At the weekend, Inma had a lot of time for me (thank you) and we went out with Ricardo and his croatian friend Marko. Last friday's night we went to a funky party at Madame Jojo's in Soho. We had a good time there, however it was so hot in that place.

Last saturday Inma had to work from home, and we were trapped by the sofa so we didn't go out until six o'clock to meet Ricardo and Marko at 1001 in Brick Lane, near Liverpool Street Station. When we came back home by bus to have dinner and get ready for more party, i started to feel sick. I decided not to go out that night but then Ricardo, Marko and Raul (another spanish friend and Ricardo's flatmate) arrived and they persuaded us to go out with them. We visited G-A-Y, where the music was so nice and then Guanabara where the music was better and we were dancing all night long

Now I'm waiting for PeLuso who arrives next wednesday from the United States. 

And this is the story of my first weekend as a Londoner, it's a shame we haven't any picture.
